Tomato Rice Recipe with step by step photos. This is an easy to prepare delicious south indian tomato rice also known as thakkali sadam. I tried tomato rice many times to get the same taste and flavor but never succeeded. This time around I managed to come very close to that taste which we had.
Steps to make Spicy Chilli tomato rice:
- Wash rice and soak for about 30 minutes. Now heat a pan and pour water in it. Bring it to a boil, and then add the soaked rice. Cover the pan with a lid and cook on medium flame till the rice becomes soft. Now remove from heat and keep it aside.
- Now heat 2 tbsp of oil in a pan and add mustard, asafoetida, curry leaves, dried red chillis. Add onions and saute till they turn slightly pinkish. Then add green chillies and ginger-garlic paste. Beans,peas Saute these ingredients for a minute.
- Now add the tomato puree, chilli paste turmeric powder, biryani powder and salt as required. Cook until the oil separates. Add the cooked rice and mix well. Once done, transfer the tomato rice in a serving bowl and garnish with coriander leaves. Serve hot with raita.
