Traditionally served with plain rice and roti. This is a comforting everyday dal. My kids love this dal mixed with cooked plain rice and ghee. Spinach adds texture, fiber, and essential nutrients.
Instructions to make Spinach moong dal chilla:
- Wash and soak moong dal in water for 2 hours. Then grind with green chillies, ginger, garlic cloves and spinach leaves with required water and make a thick batter. Add salt and besan and mix well. Keep aside.
- For stuffing, first prepare a paste. For that, grind mint leaves, coriander leaves, green chillies and lemon juice in mixer grinder. Add little water only if required. Now in a pan heat oil. Add mustard seeds and cumin seeds. When crackles add curry leaves. Add boiled and roughly chopped potatoes and boiled peas. Add salt, turmeric powder and prepared paste. Mix well. Cook for a couple of minutes. Stuffing is ready.
- For chutney, grind desiccated coconut, coriander leaves, green chillies and curd together with little water. Transfer to a bowl. Add salt, sugar, black pepper powder and chopped curry leaves. Mix well. Prepare tadka of oil, mustard seeds, cumin seeds and urad dal. Pour into. Mix well. Chutney is ready.
- Now heat nonstick tawa. Spread big spoonful of batter into circular motion and prepare chilla. Apply oil at edges. Cook both sides. Put stuffing in the centre and fold with sides. Delicious spinach moong dal chilla is ready to serve. Serve with coconut coriander chutney.
