- Soak dal for 3-4 hours
- Wash and strain in a strainer and drain excess water
- In a non stick pan add 1 tbsp ghee and sauté the dal
- Sauté the dal until water evaporates completely and becomes aromatic,take out in a plate.
- Blend it in a blender
- In the same pan dry roast the dal until it changes colour and aromatic
- Add roughly grinded dryfruits.
- Add condensed milk and cardamom powder
- Add dessicated coconut and ghee
- Make a sugar syrup using 2 cups of water and sugar
- Add the sugar syrup to the mixture
- Mix everything well till ghee separates
- Transfer to a plate and spread evenly
- Cut into desired shape when cool down
- Garnish with chopped dry fruits and silver foil
Roasting the chana dal mixture well gives the barfi and awesome aroma, while using hot milk reduces the amount of ghee required. Indian desserts can be daunting and difficult. But this one is such a winner. I had this Coconut Burfi back home at Vinodh's place this time when we had gone for his sisters wedding.
